The Shishigashira Japanese Maple is also known as the Lion's Head Maple. It is an upright, slow-growing Japanese Maple that is noteworthy for its compact habit and glossy, closely arranged, curly and crinkled green leaves on short stems. This gives this cultivar an unusual texture and look. Foliage becomes purplish-red with hues of orange and red late in fall.
The Lion's Head Maple thrives in full or part sun in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. It is one of the best bonsai trees in the world and makes a striking statement in any garden setting.
